Permanently affordable homes and thriving community on Whidbey Island.

Support Your Community

Our Work

We believe Whidbey Island should remain a place where teachers, healthcare workers, artists, small business owners, service industry employees, and young families and live and thrive.

With rising home prices and a significant portion of housing designated as second homes, many lifelong residents are struggling to stay. The CLT model will ensure that homes remain in the hands of local residents, helping to prevent displacement, maintain community diversity, and protect Whidbey’s unique character.

Collaboration is key. We will work closely with local government, nonprofits, businesses, and philanthropic organizations to secure funding, acquire land, and develop innovative housing solutions. Through public-private partnerships, we will leverage resources to maximize affordability and sustainability.

Meet Our New Executive Director

Amy Wheeler

“I am honored to join Home on Whidbey at such an important moment, this organization is doing essential work to ensure that people who contribute to the life of our island can continue to call it home.”

A longtime South Whidbey resident and nationally recognized nonprofit leader, Wheeler brings more than two decades of experience guiding mission-driven organizations through strategic growth, partnership building, and community impact.

Wheeler previously served as Executive Director of Hedgebrook, the internationally recognized writers’ residency on Whidbey Island. During her tenure she transformed the organization from a small private foundation into a thriving global nonprofit—expanding its reach, programs, and financial sustainability while stewarding its 48-acre woodland campus overlooking Useless Bay.

“Amy’s vision, leadership, and deep commitment to community align perfectly with our mission,” —Board President, Amy Gulden.

Wheeler’s leadership experience spans nonprofit strategy, fundraising, land stewardship, and community partnership building—skills she now brings to one of Whidbey Island’s most pressing challenges: housing affordability.
